Plan to attend the Readiness Workshop August 19–20 hosted by B&W Y‑12.

We have completed plans for the eighth DOE complex-wide Readiness Workshop, a joint initiative of the NNSA Y‑12 Site Office and B&W Y‑12. The wide cross section of Readiness Workshop participants from contractors, DOE and outside experts has promoted improved communication on readiness issues and concerns and a forum for sharing lessons learned and effective site improvement initiatives. This year’s Readiness Workshop will have two major focus areas:

  1. reviewing and discussing revision of the Readiness Order, DOE O 425.1C, “Startup and Restart of Nuclear Facilities,” and
  2. discussing proposed changes to DOE Standard DOE-STD-3006-2000, “Planning and Conduct of Operational Readiness Reviews.”

During the last year Mike Hillman from the DOE Office of Health, Safety and Security (HSS) and Dick Crowe from the Chief Defense Nuclear Safety organization have been working with subject matter experts to update DOE Order 425.1C, “Startup and Restart of Nuclear Facilities.” Their effort is the result of the ongoing comprehensive review of DOE Order 425.1C and supporting DOE Standard 3006-2000, “Planning and Conduct of Operational Readiness Reviews,” and DOE Handbook 3012–2003, “Guide to Good Practices for Operational Readiness Reviews Team Leader’s Guide,” and the ORR training program.

The revised order is reaching its final stages, and the workshop will provide an excellent forum to discuss the key changes, their basis and expected applications at the site level by DOE and contractor personnel.

We have worked with key DOE and contractor personnel to establish the detailed agenda for this year’s workshop. We will be meeting at the Knoxville Airport Hilton again this year August 19–20.

A reception will be held immediately following Day 1 activities. We encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity to meet and network with other workshop attendees and share similar issues or concerns from across the site.

We look forward to seeing you in August. For questions about the workshop, contact the Readiness Workshop.
