The Administration Building was built in 1950 and has undergone numerous renovations over the years. However, its structural condition has deteriorated to the point that continued use would require substantial reinvestment in basic infrastructure and building systems, as well as some structural repairs and upgrades. Consequently, individuals are being relocated until new offices can be constructed.

All the occupants have been moved, and the building is being readied for demolition. Utilities have been disconnected, and the contractor is on site to complete the demolition.

John Bernier of NNSA Headquarters was on site as the building was prepared for demolition, so he was given the opportunity to participate, along with Bill Brumley and Steve Liedle, as the first bricks were removed. Each took swings with a 16-pound sledgehammer to "officially" begin the demolition. See the video (.wmv file).
