Services

The Metrology Center provides NIST-traceable services in the following:

Dimensional metrology

  • Collaboration to provide NIST calibrations for end standards, step gages, Moore Bars, Koba Bars and ball bars
  • Hole ball plates — directly traceable calibrations on the artifacts with NIST oversight
  • Grid plates — directly NIST-traceable calibrations to 1‑micron accuracy for grids up to 600mm square
  • Gage blocks, plug gages and wire gages
  • Roundness and surface texture standards

Physical and electrical metrology

  • Voltage and bolt alternating direct current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, ratio and acceleration phase
  • Mass, with ultra-precision class-1 calibrations from 1 to 30 kilograms
  • Temperature, humidity, moisture, density and volume
  • Gas flow, pressure, vacuum and standard leaks

Complex geometric measurements

As the only NVLAP-accredited gear metrology services, Oak Ridge's Center for Complex Geometric Measurements provides calibrations traceable to NIST with a quantified statement of uncertainty less than 36 millionths of an inch (0.9 micron).

  • Gear artifacts — involute, lead, flank, pin and master gears (the Oak Ridge Metrology Center is the primary U.S. laboratory that can provide direct NIST traceability)
  • High precision and affordable services, with a six-week turnaround time

The Metrology Center also offers training courses to assist you in improving your company's calibration processes.
